I'd argue there's a similar lack from the US as well. The most prolific high-brow games i can think of all originated in mainland Europe or Japan.

Possibly it's to do with the economic and cultural factors surrounding the creation of games. In the UK and US there's more of a pressure to get a economically viable game out and about.... in Japan and France (for example) we see a lot more 'arty' titles that probably would never be green-lit in the UK or US due to not having a big enough market appeal.Duoaehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14334391553161191592noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7560610393342650347.post-5722868894995954972008-12-08T20:55:00.000+00:002008-12-08T20:55:00.000+00:00Well, apparently MS are no longer losing money per...Well, apparently MS are no longer losing money per console - or at least no where near as much as they were.

I don't think there'll be a shift in market until China/India really get into the game. They're going to be the next economic superpowers and a lot of development groups are being cultivated over there.Duoaehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14334391553161191592noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7560610393342650347.post-36353230752240426442008-12-07T01:08:00.000+00:002008-12-07T01:08:00.000+00:00I've been thinking a lot lately about how few high...I've been thinking a lot lately about how few high-brow games come out of the UK. I was considering interviewing some people at Team 17 and RockStar Leeds and talking to them about this issue, but they never got back to my messages.

It's funny to see the tables turn, and the US begin to take the reins from Japan once more. That it's even happening in hardware is indicative of just how much things really have changed. I wonder if the paradigm will have to shift again after the recession? I'm pretty sure that Microsoft loses a lot of money on the XBox360. Can it continue to justify manufacturing the console?Spencer Greenwoodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13301448668194775788noreply@blogger.com
